About Ben Stull
I've started, built, scaled, and sold businesses, and spent nearly a decade inside a billion-dollar technology company — at the smallest scale and the largest. I love building things and writing software, and I'm genuinely good at the business machinery most founders dread. That combination is what I bring to your business.
Ben Stull Business Education and Technology Services LLC exists to put that experience to work for people who'd rather be doing their craft — without handing over cash they don't have or a piece of the company they built.
It's just me here — so when I say “we,” I mean the two of us: you and me, in it together.
Ben's Bets
Now I partner one-on-one with business owners — solo practitioners, small shops, and retailers — to take the business pain off their plate and bet on the ones I'm confident will succeed.
Swiftly Systems
The first full-time engineer beyond the founders. I built the platform from the ground up, then led engineering as Head of Engineering and then VP of Engineering, growing the org to about 25 engineers — before moving onto the technical track as Technical Fellow and ultimately Distinguished Engineer. Throughout, I worked directly with retailers to define, propose, and implement solutions across mobile apps, websites, martech and advertising — partnering with the wholesaler UNFI and driving rollouts like Family Dollar (8,000 stores) and Circle K.
Hirelytics
Co-founded with my good friend Sean Murphy and bootstrapped a recruiting-analytics platform for enterprises — customers included Weyerhaeuser and the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco. We pulled data from applicant-tracking systems into a warehouse and gave HR clear recommendations to hire faster and better, including on diversity. The insight: strong brands don't lose great candidates because they can't attract them — they lose them because they can't move fast enough to make an offer. We ran it for almost four years and exited to our biggest customer, Weyerhaeuser.
Microsoft
Ten years building software at global scale. As Senior Software Developer I led the real-time spam-filtering and Data Loss Prevention pipeline for Exchange Online — a global, multi-data-center service handling billions of messages a day for thousands of enterprises — and set the technical and architectural direction for Skype Room System conference hardware, from platform and update engine to OEM integration and Active Directory/SIP. Earlier, as a Software Developer Engineer II, I worked on Office Communicator/Lync and Live Meeting, including first-party Outlook integration, and on Zune's music-recommendation pipeline. Beyond shipping features, I defined org-wide coding standards, championed test-driven development, and owned the security development lifecycle across teams ranging from dozens to thousands of engineers.

Earned my B.A. in Computer Science and was awarded the Adams Prize for Excellence in Computer Science, the department's top honor.

“I don't expect a pile of cash up front, and I don't want a piece of your company. I want to help your dream come true — and make operating in this world a lot less painful. That's the bet.”
